We are visiting Genoa in September and would like to visit Pallazzo San Giorgio. Can you just visit it on your own or do you have to make an appointment?

Hello Paula,
When visiting Porto Antico in Genoa, you shouldn't miss a visit to
Palazzo San Giorgio with its beautiful façade depicting Saint George and the Dragon. The building dates from 1260 and was later extended in 1570, but nowadays hosts the offices of the Port Authority of Genoa as well as special exhibitions.
Generally, the upper floor is dedicated to the Port Authority and also has rooms for occasional seminars/conferences held at the Palazzo. So it is only the first floor that is open to daily visits from the public. You do not need to pre-book your visits, on the day just enter the building and on your left you will find the Visitors Office .
Currently, there is a very well received free exhibition in the Palazzo on the largest Italian transatlantic liner ‘Rex’. It runs up to Sep 30th so you will be able to enjoy it on your visit. Also do not forget to visit the lovely courtyard of the Palazzo…
All the best,
Gionfranco
