The island of Tinetto is the smallest of the three islands in the Archipelago of Golfo dei Poeti, merely separated by the Island of Tino by some submerged rocks.
It is more of an islet than an island, as it is about half a hectare large and 17 meters in height at its highest point. There is not much of vegetation on the island either but interestingly it is the home of a rare subspecies of wall lizard, Podarcis muralis tinettoi, which is not present in any other corner of the world.
You can also find on the island remnants of earlier centuries religious settlements. The remains of a small oratory dating from the 6th century can be discovered on the Western side and on the level area you find the remains of a church with two naves to which a second oratory and the monks’ cells were linked.
The monastery was attacked and destroyed by the Saracens in the 11th century, which forced its settlement to move to the Island of Tino and subsequently to the Island of Palmaria .
