The Portovenere Le Grazie Hiking Trail links the two villages together and is also referred to as the Trail of Martina as it passes through an area named after a girl that inspired a local legend.
To begin the trail turn right at the end of the stairs of the cemetery in Le Grazie and follow the Via degli Scavi Romani to the road to Portovenere. On your left you will see the entrance to the Roman villa at Varignano which has a great archiological significance as it dates between the II century BC and the V-VI AD. Cross the road to Portovenere and continue up the hill on the path leading to San Antonio hamlet.
After the small Church, continue going up until you are able to turn left. Take your time to marvel at your surroundings of typical Mediterranean vegetation as well as the views of the Island of Palmaria and the picturesque town of Portovenere.
After some of the houses you will encounter, turn left and then sharply to the right - the path continues amongst the restored vine terraces of the upper part of the area . From here you can view a different perspective of the dominant Doria Castle , which stands at the center of Portovenre.
Through the steps of St. Catherine, you go down to piazza Bastreri , where begins the pedestrian zone of Portovenere and where the Portovenere Le Grazie hiking trail ends...
