Portofino and its Park are situated in the Liguria Region, precisely in the Province of Genova, more or less at 20 km from the city of Genova. The main towns representing a gateway to Portofino are Camogli and Santa Margherita Ligure. The area is easy to reach thanks to a convenient rail and road network and its proximity to two international airports.
Portofino is situated along the SP227 Provincial Road which links Santa Margherita Ligure to the village. The major motorway link connecting the area is :
Exit at the tollbooth of Rapallo and follow signs to Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino (about 15min drive)
Travelling from Milan take the A7 Milan-Genoa motorway and continue along the A12 towards La Spezia.
Travelling from Venice or Bologna take the A1 Bologna-Milan motorway to Parma, then take the A15 to La Spezia and continue along the A12 towards Genoa.
Travelling from Rome or Florence take the A11 Firenze motorway, then follow the A12 towards Genoa.
Note that the trafic on the winding road leading to Portofino may be congested at times in high season. There will be policmen regulating the flow of cars into the village and you even might have electronic infos on the road, telling you the approximate waitingtime before you may reach Portofino...
The center of Portofino is a restricted traffic zone, and
therefore
transit and parking permits are granted only to residents/authorized
persons. There is a 24-hour car park available at Piazza Martiri
della
Liberta, which is located just upon entering the village from
SP227
road. Note that the parking costs are quite expensive.
You can also use the free parking area located along the SP227 road between Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino in front of the nightclub Covo Nord Est . From here you can reach the center of the village on foot ((3.5 km from Portofino), while enjoying the stunning scenic walk or alternatively use the available bus service. In the summer months, the busses run every twenty minutes until 8pm, and tickets can be purchased at the vending machine in the parking lot.
If you are approaching Portofino by train, the nearest train station is Santa Margherita Ligure - Portofino which lies on the Genova - La Spezia line. It's served by numerous trains running daily.

From Santa Margherita you can reach Portofino by:
Walking: about 1 hour and 20 min
Taxi: there are taxi stands outside the train station
Bus: there is a regular bus service from the train station of Santa Margherita Ligure, to Portofino which runs approximates every 15-20 minutes from 6.15am to 10pm (and in the summer months up to 00:41am). For further details, visit http://www.atp-spa.it
The nearest airports to the Gulf of Tigullio are Cristoforo Colombo International airport in Genoa and Pisa International Airport - Galileo Galilei. Both operate national and international flights run by traditional and low cost airlines.
If you are arriving to Portofino by plane, you will find that flying to Cristoforo Colombo International airport in Genoa is the most convenient option as it is the closest airport to Portofino, some 40 km away.
Your other option is to fly to the Pisa International Airport - Galileo Galilei. Pisa Airport is directly connected to the Italian Railway Network.The railway terminal is located just outside the departure hall and is connected to Pisa Central Station by a direct train service. At the Airport, you can buy your railway ticket at the information office in the arrivals hall.
