Hiking in Liguria

Please could you help. We are visiting Liguria Saturday 16th June for 1 week. We are staying near Castigliona Vara and would love to do some walking in the area.
We are aware of the Cinque Terre but prefer more quieter walks we tend to be solitary walkers from choice. We have not had much luck finding walks for area that we are going to and are finding it hard to locate walking maps.
Please help, we tend to do a lot in a small space of time and would love to get the most out of our week there. We look forward to hearing from you.
With many thanks
John

Hello John,
If you are not very keen on the walking paths in the Cinque Terre, you have lots of other ‘quieter’ hiking options in this area.
One option is to explore the hiking trails on the
National Park of Montemarcello-Magra -
http://parco.parcomagra.it/.
The starting point of the Park is from the
lovely town of Montemarcello. Here you get yourselves a map with the hiking trails of the park which include popular trails such as:
1) Montemarcello - Zanego - Trebbiano
2) La Ferrara - Ameglia - La Serra - lerici
3) Bocca di Magra - Montemarcello - Zanego - Tellaro - Lerici
4) Punta Bianca - Groppolo
You can also check our suggested popular walks around the
Lerici area at
http://www.liguriaguide.com/lerici-hiking.html. Here you will find a map of all the hiking trails in this part of the woods which you can download and take with you.
If you have the time to go further down the coastline to
Portovenere area , you can also enjoy the beauty of the
National Park of Portovenere which includes the hilly cape as well as the
islands of Palmaria,
Tino , and
Tinetto. Check our suggestions here
http://www.liguriaguide.com/portovenere-hiking.html .
Again there is a map of the hiking trails in the Portovenere area. I have to say that we really enjoyed hiking around the Palmaria island… it is relatively easy hike but offers great views and is not packed with tourists…
I hope this gives you some more options for your holiday. I am sure you will have a great time and please come back and let us know how it went.
Best,
Gianfranco
