The beaches in Liguria are so varied and have so much to offer the seasoned beach lover. The region is blessed with a 340km of spectacular, rocky and jagged coastline characterised by alternating line of high cliffs overlooking the sea and flat plains creating some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.
Here you can find from hard to reach secluded pebbly beaches to tiny coves and bays to wide sandy beaches and fully equipped beach clubs catering to your every whim. There is a little bit of everything and to everyone’s taste.
The west part of Liguria what is known as Riviera di Ponente between the French border and Genova enjoys a succession of long sandy beaches while in the east Riviera di Levante there are only a few brief flat coastal regions such as the plain between Chiavari and Lavagna or the bays in Sestri Levante and the wide beach stretches of Levanto and Deiva Marina. The rest of the coastline in the east is mainly dotted with charming small pebbly or sandy beaches protected by towering rocks.
The
stunning bay of San Fruttuoso and its clear blue waters
And while Liguria beaches are generally quite narrow nested between the coastal hills and the sea, here you can enjoy some of the cleanest seawaters in Italy. Many of the beaches in Liguria are awarded the prestigious blue flags (Bandiera Blu ) by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) as an appreciation of their high environmental and quality standards.
